Let’s now look at a document with the default settings. ![]() To open this, click the tiny arrow pointing down in the corner of the Paragraph group of the Home tab in either Word 2007 or Word 2010. The first screen shot you see here is a dialog box of the default paragraph settings. Of course you can change that distance by changing the points after as you will see in my following screen shots. Got it, great, I’m glad you asked how many inches are in 10 points. Alright, so what happens every time you hit the enter key in Word now is that the insertion point will move down 10 points. What you might not know is that 72 points equals 1 inch. You are used to points every time you change the font size ( example Arial 12 points). Let me first start by explaining what is a point. ![]() For example, in Word 2003 it was set to zero points after and single line spacing. ![]() This is much different than the previous versions of Word. The default paragraph setting for Word 2007 or Word 2010 is 10 points of space after a paragraph and 1.15 line spacing within a paragraph. ![]()
